English, Friendly, Occasionally Funny?

We’re your hosts – Martin and Rod, an English couple who re-located to pursue our dream of a life in rural France at the end of 2020.

We arrived with two horses and two dogs. Our family has expanded - we now have three horses, 11 chickens, two previously wild cats who have allowed us to become their slaves – and the same two dogs.

We’re passionate animal lovers, keen cooks and semi-coherent French speakers. (Rod is currently better at French than Martin.)

We love this very special corner of France with its forests, small lakes (etangs), peaceful trails and chateaux, which, because of historically low levels of pesticide use and traditionally small farm holdings is a true wildlife haven. During your holiday, you’ll almost certainly see deer and many other animals - and you’ll be treated to a chorus of birdsong and frogs. (The frogs are sometimes out of tune, but we’re working with them on that.)

Our job is to make your holiday at La Porcherie the best it can possibly be. We won’t intrude on your privacy, but we’ll be on hand if there’s anything we can do to help – whether that’s with local knowledge, advice on day trips or tips on where to buy the best pastries.

We won’t tell you whether or not you should wear that hat – we don’t judge. 😉
